Can't we just use YouTube for training?

Welcome to our new blog series where we look at frequently asked questions that we receive every day from our customers and partners. To kick off this new blog series, we decided to tackle a question we receive all the time… Can’t we just use YouTube for our training?

We’ve talked to you about the importance of training in the past. And all that training sounds great, but can't we just use YouTube?

You can absolutely. I have many recommendations of great trainers on YouTube, but have you ever gotten lost down the YouTube rabbit hole? Cause I know I have. And those recommended, videos or those ads that pop up, you could lose somebody for a long time.

Additionally, not everybody really realizes the difference between different software versions. They may have just Googled something like “conditional formatting” and clicked on videos and seen, you know, seven different videos for conditional formatting on YouTube and spent a lot of time trying to actually get their stuff answered. And sometimes they don’t ever really get the answer to the question.

So can YouTube is a great resource? Yes, but it’s not the most efficient and cost-effective way to get the training and resources you need. Customized training like we offer at Excel and Flourish or training from certified trainers offer your employees resources focused on the work they need to accomplish.

No One Size Fits All Training

We know every company and organization is different. That’s why we provide customized training based on your organization and people. We start by creating a needs analysis for your team. A needs analysis is essential because it identifies areas we need to focus on for your customized training. We determine who needs training, different department training, and goals. After that, we review the results with you and create a comprehensive training plan for your organization.

Then we execute the training plan. Our customized training classes focus on your organization and what your team needs to succeed. We prefer to provide onsite training when available so we can work closely with everyone at the organization.

We know times have changed, so we do offer virtual training as well. This closely mirrors in-person training by using Microsoft Teams or Zoom. We believe in providing more than just a slide deck to have a real person online with a webcam and so live questions and answers, just like an in-person event.

After the initial training is complete, we give you detailed reporting into the training. we will review:

  • Topics covered

  • Question and Answers

  • Attendee lists

  • Survey results

  • Additional feedback if available

  • Next steps and recommendations
