Trim Your Inbox Challenge Bonus Tip

Trim Your Inbox Challenge Bonus Tip - Manage Subscriptions

Holy moly. It's the end of the week.

I want to just run through what we covered this week and give you a couple of other bonus tips.

On day one, we clearly gave clear visual indicators to our to-do items using either flags or stars.

On day two, we started setting some rules. So things wouldn't even land in the inbox.

If we made it to day three, we added more visual indicators to indicate urgency and importance.

And on day four, we talked about how do we clean all that extra stuff out of storage so that you can really focus on keeping things clean?

Well, today's your day for bonus tips.

First of all, if you need help with managing all of these subscriptions that you have considered using the service unroll.me. And that's a great tool to kind of gather all of those subscriptions that you have.

I'm sure you have more than you would have ever thought of. I feel like every time I'd just click on some button, I'm signed up for something new. So that can really give you a daily digest of all of those target and Kohl's and Walgreens ad six, you might be getting all in one, rather than all those separate emails. That's a great way to trim your inbox.

The other thing that I encourage you to do as a do habit is to reduce the frequency of checking for new messages. Yes. So we like to, to process things in a batch and if every time a new message zooms in you, stop what you're doing to go process that it's really about losing focus, getting distracted, and then having to get back to what you were doing.

So, we start to encourage you to follow the rules that they use in David Allen's getting things done. He would say, you should only be checking email about twice a day.

I'm going to say, try and go with no more than once an hour. That's only about checking for new messages. Don't go looking for new stuff.

Now everybody's role may be different, and you may have some organizational constraints around that suggestion, but to the degree that you can, I highly encourage you still do the work that you need to do using email, but don't go looking for the new stuff because it really shifts and adjust our priorities.

Again, we've given you a whole bunch of things to do right now to get started getting control of your inbox and for you to feel confident going into the new year that you have control over this thing before it gets even more out of control and overwhelming.
